ISP's: Bandwidth and pricing

Postby [OO9] on Mon Jun 26, 2006 11:06 pm

I'm thinking of changing ISP's for more bandwidth, but after looking at all the options it still looks just as ridiculous here in England as it was a year ago.

A lot of the ISP's have started to do 8mb, 16mb and even 22mb download now, which is great, but for upload the majority are still only giving out 256 or 384. If you want to get any higher they are asking silly prices and are adding capping on the download too. The majority of the 8mb download ISP's have caps ranging from 2gb to 20gb a month and if you go over, they change you by the gb for it.

I did find one that I could use that is 8mb down, 768 up, no capping and a good price, but the nearest exchange that they do to me is over 8 miles away, my current rate is 2mb down/256 up and the exchange is less than 2 miles away.

I was wondering what it is like in the rest of Europe and other countries for ISP's and getting some thing reasonable for today's Internet? like 2mb down 768kbs up, no capping and at a reasonable price.

3072 / 1024 Kbps
€ 32,95 p/mnd

8192 / 1024 Kbps
€ 49,95 p/mnd

20480 / 2048 Kbps
€ 59,95 p/mnd

These are chello (cable) prices and they have no download limit.
Play fair and with a smile,

Normally 100Mbit/s up and down, without capping is somewhere 20-35€/month, a little bit depending on where you live and who's your provider. Also the installation cost comes on top of this and fluctulates a lot depending on location, type of house/appartment, provider and so on. Then there are ADSL providers for anything between 0.5 Mbit/s and 22 Mbit/s up and down, without caps. All of these are in the same price-range. Lots of providers with good and fast offers to OK prices. (Of course we are using the slowest type of ADSL, but with the highest price  ). I'm sure you can find other solutions here too, but the price would still about the same and very few providers have any sort of caps. If they have caps they are set high so you're normally not exceeding them. I'm glad that I do not live in England, at least from this perspective

Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to have to stick with my current ISP and look at it again in 6 months time.
