CTF_GeStreets2

Postby DeadMan on Tue Jul 01, 2008 1:56 pm

I have completed ctf_gestreets2

The map uses the same textures as ctf_gestreets, but is a whole new layout of streets. The map is symetirical and each team has two flags to protect. Enjoy.

What's the sense of having two flags in a team? :o

I'm curious, how you got the source .map, decompiling? you should have asked me, as I converted gestreets from a hl mod

Ok, I like how that map is, you know with directions and such, I don't see that in a lot of maps

First:

The benefit to two flags for each team is a few things.

If one person from each team takes ONE flag, then you can still score, no waiting for them to return it.

One person can take both flags, but when u capture it, you only get one point. Taking both flags does prevent your opponent from scoring until they're returned.

Two people from the same team can take each flag at the same time and both capture for 2 points.

Second:

I had the textures from the original gestreets to work with. I did make the map from scratch, just copied the textures that came with gestreets.

I used a .bsp decompiler to view the map to copy the doors and view the design a bit closer. That was all I did with the original.

That's great  btw, in real gestreets all buildings were not accessible, I just made one big (with a secret room) and as I saw, you included it in new gestreets

I know how to get into your Pie Room Tras.

And I did not include that in the new one. As for making buildings accessible, in mine you can go into 4 buildings...2 of the same for each side. Plus a bunker with some ammo and armor on each side.

The difference I thought would be fun would be windows on the upper levels for you to shoot out of.

:D sounds good... ill hav a look
i once modded ctf_knox2 to have 3 flags for each team before... was kinda fun as when 1 person takes more than 1 flag they still only score 1 time

Edit:
Urm... theres no textures folder in the zip, i suppose this means u gota download the original ctf_gestreets?

Edit2:
Looks great  I would suggest that such a map be posted in for use in NFBL?

Edit3:
ups i didnt see the download textures thing on ur site xD

I hate that so many people can't figure out how to work .zip maps. So, I only included the .bsp map file in it. if you download ctf_gestreets, it will give you the textures you need.

The ctf_gestreets.exe can be found on my personal site, www.freewebs.com/007deadman which is linked to on the DMC site as Downloads.

I am going to make a new downloads page since the one on my personal site is quite a few months old.

And thank you for saying it could be a NFBL map, but I'm sure it's not up to the quality they'd be looking for. It's only my 4th map and I still am learning how to do things.

my third map was highway... i think... and thats kinda an NFBL map... or at least i can make it 1 if i dare release a 3rd version  xD my 2nd map was designed for NFBL but was too large  (CTF_Arena) lol

as long as it doesnt lag and its fair, not too big/small and p-jumping isnt too common then its fine

we will have a look for it as an nfbl map if you want.

i dont like the name, it suggests that its just gestreets but just sniper and pen. dunno why you didnt just use ctf_streets or somethin.

zero will step up 2
i think zero's has a point about the name, mainly cuz he spends most of his time hosting knox/knox2 where knox2 is sniper/pen only version
however, i think its ok

didnt realise it has 4 flags, so obviously not suitable for nfbl lol.

just tested it, and its ok.. but ive got textures for gestreets, but i still had white bits, you should include the texture folder in the file as theres obviously more textures then just the ones in gestreets.

far too easy to get onto the roofs, idk if thats on purpose or accidential.

too much p jump as well.

a few bugs, but mostly well made.

The 4 flags in my opinion make it more interesting for a team match, teamwork plays an even larger part.

I didn't care for it to be NFBL.

I will look into the textures, see what's missing. Getting onto the roofs near the middle was intentional. It's easy to get on them in gestreets and in mine, I only made it easy to get onto 4 (2 different roofs on each side) Otherwise, there's a light blocking the grapple.

The P-Jumping issue was unavoidable because I wanted this design of being more open. Besides, I figured it would prove to people that I don't hate P-Jumping, I just don't like it when people do it too much getting too many flags.
