Discussion about NFBSP's Dedicated Server Script (DSS)

Questions/Suggestion

Postby DeadMan on Sat Feb 23, 2008 9:38 pm

Forgive me if this was mentioned elsewhere.

I took a quick look at the topics and didn't see anything on this.

First, I must say I enjoy DSS over simply using NAT. I like the features and respect the work put into it.

Only problem I have encountered is when I use !unshutup then player's name, it doesn't work. !shutup works, but I have to minimize and use the DSS window to unmute someone. Is there something I am doing wrong?

And my suggestion is this: The number one feature I stil llove about NAT and makes me really want to go back to it right now, and lose all the nice features of DSS, is that NAT restarts automatically.

I knew this would happen and it #### me off because I decided to try out DSS2 last night and today, i put it up. I had some things to do today, so I was gone for a few hours. When i came home, I saw that the server crashed maybe only a few minutes after I had left.

NAT would have restarted it for me. DSS does not. Make it do that and I would always use DSS.

NAT was made before anti cheat patches, so servers got crashed a lot, but now you can just download an anti cheat patch and stop people crashing your server, so an automatic server restart is redundant.

My server crashes a lot from bond.exe crashing, but NAT doesnt always restart from a bond.exe crash (or at least the ones that happen to me ;S)

I have an anti-chat patch being used with the DSS. I just haven't touched the DLL patch. And like i said, with the anti-cheat patch, the server still crashed while i was out today.

And my NAT always restarts when crashed.

And I remembered my two other suggestions. One, your max time on kicking someone is 900 miliseconds, I think you should make it higher because people can't see why they're being kicked. I would have wanted 3 or 4 seconds, your max is less than a second.

The second suggestion I have is that when i use !shutup on a player, once they return, it has been removed. Is there a way to keep it on for that person/IP so one wouldn't have to type it every time they come in?

Thanks for taking the time to consider this.

Making it restartable is pretty easy, I will add a checkbox for it in next version ;)

That would be awesome. Thanks for taking my thoughts into consideration.

I remember back before you had 2 made, I had asked if you could get rid of the log info in the screen. I didn't know about the mp_logecho command, but you added it into version 2. Great job on everything.

Just scroll back up and check out my other two suggestions, see if they're reasonable and easy to do as well.

Oh yes I forgot to reply them, I'm sorry ;)

I may be able to increase the delay of kicking someone, but I am not sure if the program would have a problem when it does that delay.

And about shutup, yes, I made a change which I did not warn about it in the release notes. !shutup and !su mutes and unmutes too, so if you want to unmute someone, do !su (playername) again to him and he will be unmuted.

By the way, I have already added the autorestart option in my beta version, and I hope I can release it asap

Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconveniences

By no means is it an inconvenience.

Thank you for taking ideas into consideration and helping out.

I hope my prodding about problems or ideas isn't a nuisance, because I only mean to help and give you ideas that a server manager looks for to make things easier.

I wondered if there was a way to automatically bind keys for someone or make the voting easier somehow.

This is a minimal change, but for some reason, people don't seem to get the type !vote to vote for something. On Battlefield 2142, when a vote starts, all someone has to do is press Page Up to vote yes and down to vote no. THis also comes up not on the chat screen but in the middle as an announcement. If you play with nightfire Utility Script, for example, when you turn on or off rcon or sv password, it shows up in the middle of the game to let you know it's been turned on or off.

This type of message announcement might be better if you can for voting so people have time to see what they have to do(type !vote) The chat scrolls away too quick especially if people are talking or voting.

Thx for the time to respond to my other messages and I hope this may give you some ideas.

Voting with keys is already possible if you join DSS servers with the NFBSP Client, you can check at client's config which keys you want to bind for quick voting.

When you got to vote, it appears a considerably big text message at the top of the window telling you to press either f1 or f2, try that out ;)

Oh and you shall check the NFBSP client's menu for managing your server or others.

Ah, i didn't know the NFBSP had that, thanks.

A quick question about that. Someone I had sent to your site to get that program to download maps easier said he likes joining servers like that, but his console won't work.

Does it rebind the console to another key? or get rid of it?

Thanks for the information.
