Spectrum Mod

Discussion about Nightfire Modifications (Mods).

Postby herbius on Sat Aug 04, 2007 8:47 am

Thanks fot the support but I think I'll just record them directly to my PC. Yesterday I discovered that hex based .bin hacking was extremely complicated

HUD's very nearly finished, just finding out why some images aren't showing up, then I'll upload a beta version. No new sounds or anything, just the main GUI.

I tried Tras' way but it didn't work. I'm not sure that the DVD decryptor would work either seeing as it's a binary file I want.

the bin is inside the DVD, it's probably a filesystem but I have no idea of opening it, and herb, there's some VIV files inside the DRIVING folder, maybe you have some textures there ;).

(It's a bit cheap that EA used their Need For Speed engine for Nightfire driving scenes of PS2 :P)

The bin is the filesystem I think; debug.txt seems to think so. All I'm looking for is the sounds, not the textures, so I'll just record them off the PS2: easiest option.

If ya want to distribute it, ya can stick it in a zip folder with instructions on where to extract the files.

I just used Install Creator, worked fine except for finding the registry entry (I dunno how to ). I tried Install Aware, someone said it was free but for me it was only a trial and I could buy it for $25.00 or something. Plus, it was way too complicated for what I wanted...

Btw, the CTF sounds seem to be mixed up  dunnno why. I can't currently update it since I'm in France on dial-up, it would take about half an hour to upload. lol

However, the thing I am working on at the moment is a new NF intro video, modelled on the PS2 movies which are far better quality. I'll try not to make it too big but there will be a significant size increase from the original video.

Right, updates on the situation:
No program I had could edit the intro video properly, so I've given up on that.
    Corrected CTF sounds
    Updated health bar

The thing I have been doing most over the past few weeks is mucking around with a rock-on program called FPS Creator, which lets you create your own first person shooters. It's a whole lot more laggy than Nightfire and is still sort of a WIP, but it's really easy to use and has loads of features.

I was thinking of making a new/sequel Bond game called Black Ice, possibly to go with Spectrum. Here's the storyline:

A strange, new crystal has been found on the moon by the Americans. It is black in colour, warm to the touch and harder than diamond. Its main interest, however, is that when a beam of light is shone through the crystal and focussed, any object the light hits has its mass converted to highly charged light particles. In other words, the crystal has provided the link between particles with mass and super light particles with no mass.

The crystal, nicknamed "Black Ice" coupled with Einstein's theory E=MC2, means a dramatic breakthrough in scientific technology and a great story to tell at the next National American Science and Technology Convention.

However, MI6 has recieved intelligence that the little known British terrorist group HITMAN, under the alias of the "Hi-Tech Miscellaneous Archeology Network", were taking a delivery of $6 million worth of the crystal for "Archeological experiments". Knowing the real reason for the purchase could not be innocent, M has sent Bond to the suspected drop-off point of the priceless crystal to see if the delivery can be intercepted.

Dot dot dot.

Comments much appreciated.

'HITMAN'... very origonal name

sounds awesome... maybe MGM might kidnap you

EA tries to save money wherever it can when competing with activision  activision fps physics is terrible... their games are best in SP by far... in mp when u make gravity lower you still get hurt from falling the same height as normal gravity and the numerous glitches in the game are signs of low experience which valve greatly boasts in its ownage engines

I doubt it somehow. Not really old enough, being 14 yrs 1 day. W00t

Funny, I thought up all of the storyline in the back of our car cramped between sleeping family members...lol

Completely unrelated, I tried out Goldeneye 64 on a PC emulator, it rocks! My joystick works pretty well.

I'll continue working on Black Ice, the finished file may be pretty big (100mb+) so I dunno how I'll distribute it.
