Problem in Gearcraft level editor

Postby thegammingperson1994 on Thu Jul 12, 2007 12:58 pm

Well, I successfully exported the very first map from nightfire, and I'm editing it. I wanted to run it, but it never works. I had to manually set the directory, because when it was looking for the maps, it would always use \\ before the map name, so it would come in an error. Now there are now errors, and yet the map doesn't load into the game. What is the problem I'm having?

Be more specific about the error you got. (P.S.: It's normal to have errors on decompiled maps)

Whoa, is this board directly linked to another? Anyways, I'll try and be more specific. So I've extracted Infiltrate's first map, and I want to test it. On both of the editors, (I can't really see much difference) I get this same error. So I click run, the output box opens, a command prompt box opens, then a window, with the nightfire logo appears saying "Insert Disk 2." It becomes apparent that it's not actually looking into any of my CD drives because the message appears straight away when I click OK. So what exactly is the problem?

Mh One thing: Decompiled maps are very difficult to be compiled again, as the decompilation is not perfect.
And the problem you got now is because you don't have it configured well.
By the way, you shall use Gearcraft\NFLE instead hammer, if you want the textures to be displayed properly

Ya, I think I find gearcraft more useful, anyways. So what does the configuration have to be to work correctly? I don't care if the decompilation/compilation is incorrect, I just want it to work.

Mh I'm sorry but I don't have enough info to know what's the real problem, try posting screenshots, or speaking more about the problem

Well, I guess I'll take some screenshots. Give me a few minutes and I'll post them.

EDIT: Here they are.
So, these are some screenshots I took going up to the problem. I'll put descriptions below the pictures.

Image

Just for refrence, I'm using Gearcraft Editor (I updated it to 5.0.)

Image

What? An invalid solid? I don't think that has anything to do with the problem, but just in case...

Image

As you can probably see, I'm using the 3rd Austria map for this. I checked the error and it just told me that the player start was missing... I'm not sure if that's relevant or not, but like I said, just in case...

Image

Ok, I'm starting the Editor's compiler in advanced mode. Please look closely and tell me if all the commands are correct (along with the other options.)

Image

Ok, so I click "Go!', it waits for a few seconds, a command prompt window blinks up for a second, then this. I have the No-CD version copied over it, but what is this!? Maybe there's a conflict with a mod I installed or something, I could really use help here.

Image

Notice the icon? It's the one for the Nightfire program. So there must be some sort of error when the editor tries to launch nightfire.

Image

Finally, here's the output. Everything seems to be working fine, but look at it anyways. I'll provide the actual text at the bottom.

Here's the text in the output:

Code: Select all
** Executing...
** Command: Change Directory
** Parameters: "c:\program files\ea games\nightfire\bond\maps\"

** Executing...
** Command: c:\NFEditors\tools\compile.bat
** Parameters: "c:\program files\ea games\nightfire\bond\maps\test123.map"

** Executing...
** Command: C:\Program Files\EA Games\Nightfire\bond.exe
** Parameters: +map "test123"

So, there it is. That's my problem. If you guys can help me on this one, that would be great.

Does a black window appear while the run process?.
It's really important, if not, try to save your map to c:\nfeditors\maps or other directory that does not contain spaces. By the way, you shall ignore that "Insert the CD2" error, copy the compiled BSP map to your Nightfire\bond\maps folder and start nf and lad the map.

By the way, Compiling some decompiled maps will be a bit impossible, as they won't be decompiled exactly as they were made, and they will show many compiling errors.

Ok, I think that helps a lot. (And I'm not being sarcastic!) A black window? Do you mean like a black command prompt window? I'll try saving the map to the compiler's directory and the bond/maps directory. Thanks!

the reason the insert disk 2 thing shows is probably because it starts nightfire after compiling

tres... u know how in the first version the material information didnt decompile properly and u updated it... i think that i told u not to update it on the site so that normal people who know nothing about maps go along and decompile a map and then compile without putting any effort in to it... so i think u should update the one on the site, i have the recent one if u need it
