Internet Problems

Hey everyone. I just bought a new laptop and I want to change the internet from my old computer to the laptop. I have a Motorola SB4200 SURFboard cable modem. When I got to plug the cable into the laptop it seems only to fit into the network port. I am not sure what that is, but I can never get the internet to work. Does anyone know how to make it work?

Hi GS clan leader... a network port is commonly an "Ethernet port" which is used for connecting to networks and High speed internet. What is the Operating system??? It should work, unless you have your laptop configured differently or must install software for the ISP you use. My cable moden just wokrs by plugging it into a computer. What program does not work for the Internet? Nightfire, or have you tried Internet explorer? Another possibility is that the TCP/IP protocall is not installed (this is needed for most internet programs to work), To check this it depends on your OS, so let me know which it is and ill try to walk you through it.

How did it plug into your old PC? If it is CAT5 cable from the modem (which is what it sounds like) you must have had a network card on your old PC. The Network card/port is for connecting one PC to another over a network, do you have a router too? Also did the modem come with some software to set it up, if you did you will have to set that up on your laptop too.

Sorry guys, simple mistake. I had to find the installation CD for the modem. I got it all figuered out and now it works flawlessly. Thanks for taking the time to look at it though.

lol, same thing I put basically, I said ISP software... which is the same as software for your modem.... :lol:
