DSS General

I create this topic because many people talk about it in incorrect topics, so if there's any problem or any comment, post it here.

No comment yet  I'm still not able to test it because I play to less atm. But very good to see that you and penny are active in here. Some good old time friends seem to "be back"

With Sv_serverlog on, a lot of extra messages and information appear in the console (i.e. someone is connecting to server, disconnecting, chamged name...) , and they are mirrored to qconsole.log. The inconvenience is that there's no way to display those messages in qconsole.log without enabling that command.

NAT is great and it's a classic that never made big problems and was handy and easy to use. DSS has a graphic interface and it adds lots of new commands that can be used directly ingame by technically any player (you can distribute command rights). Those commands are typed in the normal chat of a Nightfire game, so there is no need for console, rcon etc.
Some example commands:
!shutup playername - kicks a player if he keeps on speaking after this was enabled
!whois playername - finds the ISP and location of a player
!previousnames playername - goes through a list of players and finds his previously used names

It is based on Tres' idea to create a "badword kicker" for Nightfire. A tool that checks the ingame chat and kicks people who'd curse too much. Of course, this function is still integrated in DSS.

Differencing to other server makers, DSS has much more options, you can use some commands inside the game, like kick, changelevel or ban for x minutes, and if those commands are said by a player, then it will open a voting process, which more than the 50% must vote it to be applied. There are also some useful admin commands like ip, whois, previousnames, those are used to get information of the selected player.

ok some of those do seem a bit usefull.. and ive seen the things happen in the game..

but honestly, i dont think its worth it, as the console is easier and better to use..

plus all that !blahblah stuff just makes soo much spam..

i think ill stick with nat ;)

although that !shutup thing is hilarious.. xD

It's a tool that can be used by players, plus I find it very useful inside the game, so I don't need to rcon the server. It does a quick and nice job.

Yep, DSS Stores playerinfo and recollects ips. then you can use !previousnames <name> command to see old names from same IP, if none found, you can use !previousnames dynamic <name>

yeh, using the serverlog which ends up lagging the serv

can you please make this sensible tres? make default options to shut off serverlog (if its disabled disable all the other options that depend on it)

i think this will help some ppl

Im a bit fed up hearing the word lag with it. DSS depends entirely from sv_serverlog on, and anyway, bier has even 15mb logs by servergame, and his servers do not lag, explain that please.
