Rotating Doors

Postby DeadMan on Wed May 14, 2008 2:40 pm

I have figured out that Rotating Doors can be rotated around the X, Y or Z axis.

I've been wanting to make a door only rotate around a corner of the door itself.

I decompiled GeStreets because of it's numerous rotating doors to see how they did it. They put every single rotating door on the axis at 0 0 0. That way when they rotate around one of the axis, they appear to rotate on a hinge.

Does anyone know how they placed these doors at the center of the map (below the level), yet have these doors show up on the level in their appropriate places?

My goal is simply to get a rotating door to swing on a hinge. Best I can do now, the door may appear way across the map when it rotates because it's really far away from the Z axis.

Thanks for your help.

If you're using a func_door, changing the pitch or yaw to certain degrees in increments of 90, that changes in which direction it slides when activated.

I figured that out and can see why simpler maps have sliding doors over rotating ones. I just wish I could figure this out.

theres something called an origin brush... you make a small brush with the texture special\origin and make sure that the centre of the brush is where u want the door to pivot around... then you group the origin brush and the door, select them, and tie them to the same func_door entity

I was unable to figure out how to make a special/origin texture.

Can you help me out with that?

Yes, my point is that texture is not on my list of textures and if I type it in manually, nothing happens.

I am very new to map editing, but I would like to get better at it. So if I appear stupid, it's because I am. I don't know where this special/origin texture is.

The textures I have are from maps like overwatch, gestreets, space station, void, istanbul. Maps that I have donwloaded.

...

before modding / mapping / any nf changes

UNPACK THE ASSETS.007
that'll give you all the models / textures / w.e you need

after you did that, try again ;)

( reboot the editor, whenever you change anything in your nf folder )
