NFBL Map Testers

Ok, heres the idea I have...

Maybe a new group of NFBL Staff could be formed? NFBL Map Testers? It Would save work for the other NFBL Admins, and could be a whole group of experienced players and mappers, and they have to vote to decide which map goes in for NFBL.


Example:

    Player A makes a map.

    Player A wants map in nfbl.

    Player A tells NFBL Map Testers.

    NFBL Map Testers do proper testing on the map.

    NFBL Map Testers vote and decided if map is good enough for NFBL.



People who could be map testers would be people like: [2L2D]UltimateSniper, .[FuR].Spida, Smith, [STORM]Dave, and other experienced NFBL players (they dont have to be mappers). Preferably active players would be picked, to make things run quickly and easily.

This would mean maps could be tested and failed or succeeded quickly, as it seems the mappers are getting a bit frustrated that they have made a map and no testing is being done, due to the limited time of current NFBL Admins. (They're only human after all ;p).

It also means, due to the voting system, that if, say, Player B was an NFBL Map Tester, and he makes a map he wants in NFBL, then he has to still take it to the NFBL Map Testers for them to test it and agree with him that its suitable for NFBL.

well i dont think u guys are gona get a special rank, i think NFBL hosts are more important than map testers :razz:

yeh, nice idea zero... usually i can spot all the noticable bugs in my own maps but a group of mappers/intense players a-like would be great :grin:

This is why we asked a few weeks ago to mail when you were interested to join the NFBL staff, atm we are allready busy with updating website,matchresult,matchsubmission but with more people in the staff we can also put more time in 'mapstesters' and also to develop a new tournament... To be honoust we are still working on a new tournament idea of me from 2005...

well if this is a good idea, can anyone think of extra rules/regulations that should also be put in place that i mightve missed?

mustve missed that mail about nfbl staff ;o

and can anyone think of other players that would be good as a map tester?

I don't think it is necessary to create a formal group. However, I like the idea in large, as there are more maps available then it's possible to give a proper look.

If a group of players does serious map-testing (everything from testing all functions to lots of scrims 4vs4) and give us their results, we'd be very glad about it. More opinions are always appreciated about everything we do, because it's very hard for a few people to make a desicion many will like. The more voices, the better.

If you can create the above mentioned players and some others and help us test the most interesting maps, we'll for sure credit you somehow for your help (however, all work would simply have to be on a volontarly basis lol).

i like the idea of an official formal group which sticks together, they can contact each other easily then and arrange times to test the maps...

Yes, I imagined a GSA room (maybe even a tag? ;o) where they could get together and test maps, and then discuss it afterwards.

if we form this kind of group we must be sure the team is wiiling to test all the maps they get, without premade thought like "ahh its made by 009, probably a bad map". or listen to the mappers who made it "can you plz put my map in nfbl? ill pay you 10 bucks if you do" :roll:.. so if any1 is up for that.. :p

well im not sure if bribery is a problem.. or maybe it would be the rich clans that would win nfbl? ;D

but thats the whole point of the voting system - you cant just be friends with one person and have the map in, the whole team of Map Testers have to vote on the map.

And picking trusted people would also help this.

yeh as i said... its a pretty good idea (zero i think tags are going a tiny bit far :razz: ) if people find problems with my maps that i cant make an argument for ignoring, then i dun mind :razz: after testing maps, the group will have to come up with a list of improvements the map will have to meet before its allowed in the NFBL, or just a list of improvements that the mapper could make to make the map even better for NFBL use :grin:

i think we should walk the walk now rather than just chattin :razz:

its a good idea i think . in the map testing team there should be dudes who have a knowledge about mapping, others who have a knowledge about gameplay, etc..

The group should not belong to the NFBL Staff or Team. It should be an own team which works independently of the NFBL and just brings their results to them.

After the decision of the Map Tester Team , they should have a talk with the NFBL about a ( in their eyes ) 'good' map. Then the NFBL Staff can also have a look at that map and discuss internet whether its OK for NFBL use or not. :wink:

Ok, here comes the heavy stuff..


NFBL Map Testers


NFBL Map Testers are a group of people dedicated to testing and evaluating maps to be put forward for use in NFBL Matches.
Once a map has been made, the creator of the map must give his or her express permission to allow the map to go forward to NFBL Map Testing. From here, the NFBL Map Testing team will do a series of tests, involving mock NFBL matches (4 v 4 scrims), server hosting, general playing, fairness of the sides (if CTF), amount of lag generated by the map, and texture and glitch/bug evaluation.
Once full testing has been complete, and all NFBL Map Testers are satisfied, they will go to their private GameSpy Arcade Room, to discuss the map, and then vote anonymously.
A majority vote in favour of the map will put it through to provisional NFBL Matches, at which, if players are fine with it, it will stay. If players feedback indicate they really dont enjoy playing the map, or think its unfair, etc. then the map will recieve re-evaluation.
Mock NFBL Matches will be played with non NFBL Map Testers as well.

Rules for NFBL Map Testers

1. If a NFBL Map Tester has made a map, he or she can take part in the map testing, but he or she cannot vote for or against the map.

2. All NFBL Map Testers must be either experienced NFBL players, experienced mappers, or be of good judgement and intelligence.

3. NFBL Map Testers must vote on their best judgement, not because of what someone has told them to vote.

4. Maps must fit in with NFBL rules ( see www.NFBL.com ).

5. NFBL Map Testers must be active, to avoid delays.

6. There will only be 6 testers at a time.


Players that would like to be a NFBL Map Tester:

Players that could be suited to being a NFBL Map Tester:

(Obviously all these players cant be NFBL Map Testers at the same time, but the second list havnt been spoken to yet, so the lists will be updated in time.)

Requirements of NFBL Map Testers.

A small page on www.NFBL.com
A small section of NF Forum
10 million pounds*
A small island in the carribean*

* = debatable ;o
